Who We Are

The Mountain Express offers a deviated fixed route service to the citizens of Alleghany County, Clifton Forge, Iron Gate, and Covington. The route map and schedules are available for download on the website.

A fare of $1.00 per trip is charged and must be paid when boarding the van. Exact change is required. Children under the age of six years old ride at no charge.

Individuals who are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) certified may request the van to deviate off its route to make pick-ups and drop-offs. This distance may not exceed 3/4 of a mile off the route. All ADA-deviated rides must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Drivers are trained in passenger assistance, defensive driving,  cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and wheelchair securement procedures. The ADA certification application is available on the website for deviated route services.

Fixed route service is offered to the general public. Application for ADA certification must be submitted and approved by RADAR prior to scheduling a deviated ride.

Service is available Monday - Friday 8 am to 5 pm. When Covington Schools close due to bad weather, service is not provided. If service is closed for any other reason, announcements are on local radio and television stations. Service is closed on New Years Day, Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
