Who We Are
Fredericksburg Health Department, part of the Rappahannock Health District, participates in the Every Woman's Life (EWL) program, a public health program that helps uninsured, low-income women gain access to free cervical cancer screening services. Screening and early detection reduce death rates and improve treatment options. In some sites where EWL services are offered, women can also be screened for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose and also learn how to become more physically active, eat healthier foods, and more.
To be eligible, a woman must be a Virginia resident between the ages of 50-64, meet federal income guidelines and be uninsured. A limited number of screenings can also be provided to women aged 40-49. Effective July 1, 2006, the Virginia General Assembly approved funding to provide diagnostic testing to eligible women between the ages of 18-39 who have symptoms of breast or cervical cancer.
Call Every Woman's Life toll-free referral line at 866-EWL-4YOU (866-395-4968) to find your nearest screening.
