Elizabeth River Ferry

Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) operates three 150-passenger ferries on the Elizabeth River between Norfolk and Portsmouth. They travel between North Landing and High Street in Portsmouth and the Waterside festival marketplace in downtown Norfolk. Ferries operate every 30 minutes with 15-minute service during the summer at peak times on weekends. The winter schedule is different. Schedules are subject to change based on operating situations (weather, mechanical problems, etc.). The routes and schedules can be viewed and downloaded from the website.

All HRT vehicles, except light rail, are equipped with electronic fare boxes. Fare boxes accept cash, coins, and GoPasses. Fare boxes and/or vehicle operators cannot make change, so please have the exact fare when boarding. All sales are final. HRT does not give refunds on any purchases.

The ferry is wheelchair accessible. Ramps and boarding docks allow for level boarding. Boarding passengers are allowed to walk on their bicycles.
