Who We Are
Bath County Department of Social Services administers federal and state benefit and service programs to residents of Bath County as required by law. Benefit programs include Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF & TANF-UP), Diversionary Assistance, Medical Benefits Eligibility (Cardinal Care Medicaid), FAMIS, Energy Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and Auxiliary Grants. Benefits are available for persons/families who meet income, resource, and eligibility requirements. Due to the implementation of welfare reform in 1997, some of these programs became time-limited.
Service programs include preventive and supportive services for adults and families, child and adult Protective Services, Foster Care/Adoption, VIEW Employment, and Day Care Services. Some services are available without regard to income, some require an income screening and some require parental co-pay. Social Workers are on call 24 hours daily to screen and investigate complaints of child and adult abuse and neglect. Holiday, weekend and after-hours contact are coordinated locally through the Bath County Sheriff's Department (540-839-2331).
The mission of the Bath County Department of Social Services is to promote self-reliance and protection for our citizens and to promote and support efforts to develop strong families and healthy communities.
