Who We Are

The Shelter for Help in Emergency offers emergency, temporary housing to victims of domestic violence in need of safety. There are 25 beds available and priority is given to residents of Planning District Ten.  Maximum stays at the Shelter are 6 weeks, with each stay evaluated in terms of the client's danger level.



Services include: 24 hour hotline for victims of domestic violence, individual counseling, case management, children programs and life skills groups. Court accompaniment and legal advocacy are available.

Intake Process
After acceptance to shelter, clients are screened at UVA Emerg or RTCSB; male children over 14 screened for appropriateness
