Who We Are

Founded in 1989 on the belief that all people deserve a life free from interpersonal violence, The James House Intervention/Prevention Services provides support, advocacy, and education for people in the Tri-Cities and surrounding counties affected by domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking to empower them to become healthy, safe, and self-sufficient. The James House has a wheelchair accessible office in Petersburg.

The James House provides at no cost

  • 24 hour crisis line staffed by trained volunteers;
  • Peer counseling (individual, couples, pet-assisted and art-assisted) offered by trained support staff;
  • Support groups offered weekly and monthly;
  • Hospital/court accompaniment 24/7;
  • Emergency shelter arrangements; and
  • Safety planning.

The James House also provides fun, interactive, free and interesting presentations and workshops for law enforcement, civic organizations, houses of worship, schools, businesses and many other types of groups.  The presentations are tailored to meet the needs of each group.  If you need a speaker, informative presentation, training for your staff or group, email Jane at jane@thejameshouse.org to make a request, or contact the Community Services Director by calling 804-458-2704
